Jim Schmerer, Owner and Managing Director
Jim started his career in funeral service in the year 2000. Since then, he and his wife, Jennifer, have successfully owned and managed several small businesses outside of the funeral industry. Most recently, Jim has managed several funeral homes for Service Corporation International and Carriage Services - two of the largest funeral service corporations in the world.
Jim’s experience in the funeral industry started as a young man in Walla Walla, Washington. While home from college for the summer, he was asked by a family friend to help out at a local funeral home. What began as a summer job soon became a passion, as Jim found that he enjoyed serving the families of the deceased through one of the most difficult times in their lives. Jim and Jennifer were married that fall and then moved to Dallas, Texas for Jim’s schooling. While attending mortuary school, Jim worked for one of the largest funeral homes in the country, Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery.
After graduating, Jim transferred to Finley-Sunset Hills in Portland, Oregon to complete his apprenticeship.
Later, Jim managed a group of four locations for Service Corporation International in Waco, Texas.
Finally, as a manager in Nampa, Idaho Jim had the task of improving a very challenging location for Carriage Services, Inc.
Jim and Jennifer have owned, and worked together, on multiple retail businesses including Go! The Game Store, Calendar Club, The Music Box Company, Christmas Corner, and a Quiznos restaurant. Several of these businesses were existing when they took them over and they made them into some of the best in their region and/or the nation.
Jim's mix of experience both in and out of funeral service has provided a fresh, new perspective as more and more people choose simple cremation options over expensive traditional funeral options.
